In this episode of the Salty Scenes Podcast, Randy and I dive deep into the concept of joy, exploring its significance as one of the fruits of the Spirit. We discuss how joy is often misunderstood and frequently substituted with fleeting emotions like happiness and pleasure.

We highlight the distinction between these terms: pleasure is a temporary response to an event, happiness is a more stable state influenced by circumstances, while joy is a deliberate choice rooted in our relationship with God. We reference a thought-provoking Facebook post from a friend who emphasizes the importance of choosing joy, even amidst life's challenges.

Throughout the conversation, we examine various biblical passages that illustrate joy's enduring nature, even in the face of sorrow and mourning. We also touch on the idea that joy can be found in relationships, but ultimately, it is a reflection of our connection to God.

As we navigate through the complexities of joy, we acknowledge that while mourning and sorrow are valid responses to life's difficulties, they can lead us back to joy when we draw near to God. We conclude by encouraging our listeners to choose joy by aligning themselves with God's promises and truth, reminding them that true joy is everlasting and rooted in Him.

Join us as we unpack these themes and encourage you to embrace joy in your daily life! Stay Salty!

Meet Your Hosts
Hey, I’m Zack! I’m a pastor at New Hope Church on the south side of Indianapolis, IN. I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a degree in Biblical Studies. I am currently engaged to my fiancé Abby, and depending on how often these bios get updated, I may be married by the time you’re reading this. I love apologetics, theology, and hearing about people coming to Christ. My goal as a Christian is to grow more and more into the likeness of Christ, to spread the Gospel, and to disciple others to do the same. In all reality, I could go into depth about who I am, but the best way to find that out is to tune into the podcast… like right now… :)
After 43 years of teaching the Bible and practical theology and church planting in Hispanic cultures, I have now been a pastor at New Hope Church since 2017. In that role, I hope to help others understand God’s Word in ways that will change their lives. My wife Linda and I have four adult children and eight grandchildren.
